Synchronized skating is a growing discipline of figure skating characterized by speed, accuracy, intricate formations and breathtaking transitions performed by teams of 8-20 athletes. Synchronized skating started approximately 50 years ago. What began with a group of skaters organized to perform at University of Michigan ice hockey games has since grown into a competitive discipline with thousands of athletes participating all over the world, culminating in the World Synchronized Team Skating Championships every year.
For the 2011/2012 season, the Maplewood Highsteppers are comprised of three synchronized skating lines representing the following U.S Figure Skating divisions:
Beginner
A line of 10 skaters. The Beginner line is coached by Andrea Hall and Jessica Fisher. This year they are skating to the "Minnesota Wild" theme

Open Juvenile
A line of 10 skaters coached by Andrea Hall, Kristina Kupferschmidt and Jessica Fisher, skating to music from "Dragon"

Intermediate
A line of 15 skaters and 2 alternates, coached by Andrea Hall and Kristina Kupferschmidt, skating to music from "Burlesque"
